Eaton starts trials of UPS-as-a-Reserve service in Sweden

Enabling data center operators to support the power grid with their UPS systems.

Power management specialist Eaton has launched the first pilot project of UPS-as-a-Reserve (UPSaaR) service – an initiative that enables data center owners to participate in regulation of the power grid, while getting paid for their contribution.

The service connects UPS batteries to the grid, so stored energy can be used in periods of low supply and high demand, helping prevent grid-wide outages and reducing the need for ‘peaker plants’ – power plants that only run for a few hours a day.

For the pilot, Eaton has partnered with Swedish national grid operator Svenska kraftnät and utility provider Fortum, which already runs a ‘virtual battery’ service called Spring.

ATS Awarded – CSE’s 2017 Product of the Year – Silver

We are pleased to announce that the 3000A contactor-based ATS was awarded CSE’s ‘2017 Product of the Year – Silver’ in the category of Emergency, Onsite, Standby Power.

Automatic Transfer Switch

The contactor-based, UL 1008-listed automatic transfer switch (ATS) is specifically engineered for applications up to 3,000 amps. The contactor-based ATS is simple to operate and available in a broad selection of configurations and features to meet a wide array of application types. The ATS is engineered for enhanced safety and uptime, with the front door of the switch forming an isolated compartment. Upon opening the front door, service personnel can turn the maintenance-isolation switch and electrically isolate the control compartment while the transfer switch is energized. This design enhances safety in the working environment when performing inspection or routine maintenance.

Eaton introduces 9395 High Performance!

Building on the technological leadership and proven reliability of its flagship Power Xpert™ 9395 UPS, the new Power Xpert 9395 high performance model provides industry-leading efficiency and scalable battery runtimes for data centers, light industrial applications and multi-tenant data centers (MTDCs). With a three-level converter topology, the new 9395 high performance UPS offers best-inindustry efficiency in double conversion and delivers ten percent more power in the same footprint, allowing customers to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). Scalable and flexible, the high performance model is unity power factor rated with 275 kilowatt (kW) modules offering 675-1100 kW/kVA power ratings. RT units are available to ship now, and parallel units began shipping in October. The new Eaton 9395 high performance UPS extends the efficiency, cost savings and scalability of the original Power Xpert 9395 UPS model Leading the industry in efficiency

The new 9395 high performance model brings UPS capabilities to the next level for large data center facilities looking to support their growing demands with powerful UPS systems. The high performance model delivers up to 99 percent efficiency across most loads through Eaton’s Energy Saver System (ESS), and also offers the industry’s highest double-conversion efficiency of up to 97 percent. Less heat, more
power, same footprint The new 9395 model not only allows customers to increase efficiency; it also enables them to save on utility costs and space at the same time. Producing 33 percent less heat without sacrificing reliability, Eaton’s 9395 high performance model leads the industry in efficiency while significantly reducing HVAC and other operational costs. Its ability to provide ten percent more power to support ten percent more racks within the same footprint lowers TCO and allows data centers to scale as they grow while avoiding unnecessary investments in excess capacity.

Eaton’s Predict Pulse

In a perfect world, you’d have eyes on your IT infrastructure and power management equipment constantly, making sure it’s protecting critical power and running efficiently. That’s not reality though —your team has more to tend to than just the IT environment. Plus, each person likely has different experience with responding to power issues. That’s where remote monitoring and management can make a difference. It means a second set of eyes is keeping tabs on your equipment and will notify you of any issues.

PredictPulse is a next-level monitoring and management service that collects and analyzes data from connected power infrastructure devices, providing us with the insight needed to make recommendations and take action on your behalf. It’s also powered by CA   Technologies, bringing together the best in hardware and software.

What does that mean for you? Real-time status information, time savings and peace of mind that your entire power infrastructure is covered.
